AI is Here. Thoughful Use is What Matters.

I was recently inspired by the HBR sponsored Video Quick Take, “Why Leaders Should Embrace Thinking Mode with AI,” featuring Stacey Caywood of Wolters Kluwer. What stayed with me was not the push to move faster for the sake of it. It was the reminder that the real value of AI comes when it helps people reduce complexity, think more clearly, and make better decisions.
That feels especially relevant right now because AI is no longer a future conversation. It is already part of how work is changing. Stanford’s 2025 AI Index found that 78% of organizations reported using AI in 2024, up from 55% the year before.
At the same time, McKinsey’s 2025 research shows that companies see more value when they redesign workflows and put real governance around AI, not when they simply add another tool.
For firms, that is the real challenge. AI should not create more noise, more content, or more confusion. It should help people do the work that matters better. The organizations that get this right will not be the ones trying to force AI everywhere. They will be the ones asking better questions: Where does this save time? Where does it improve quality? Where does it support stronger decisions without removing accountability?
For individuals, the opportunity is just as important. You do not need to master every platform. But you do need to learn how to use AI thoughtfully. The World Economic Forum reports that skill gaps are a top barrier to transformation, and 85% of employers plan to prioritize upskilling. PwC also found that workers with AI skills command a significant wage premium, reinforcing that the advantage will go to people who can pair new tools with judgment, adaptability, and real expertise.
I do not think the best response to AI is fear. I also do not think it is blind enthusiasm. I think it is intention. Let AI help with the noise. Let people lead with judgment. That is where the real value is.
